To kick start the BBC’s Summer of British Film season, Mark Kermode
and Lauren Laverne hop in their vintage Ford Cortina for an epic
road trip visiting the locations of some of Britain’s greatest films.
From the romantic streets of Notting Hill to the haunting
site of The Wicker Man they explore how the UK’s iconic
cities and landscapes have shaped its cinematic identity. Along the
way they meet British film luminaries including Danny Boyle, Julian
Fellowes and Edward Woodward, culminating in a Trainspotting-style
chase through the streets of Edinburgh.
“The great strength of the show is the Laverne
/ Kermode double act – she so pretty and perky, he so grumpy and
sour. His head-banging anguish when she tries to tell him Notting
Hill is a good film is a joy to behold… A sparking jewel in the surrounding
sludge”
